Some Berliners buy a rusting East German sleeper train off the internet and turn it into a club, a kitchen, a social experiment. To pay for it they bring in a Californian investor, pitching a version that appeals to him. For nine months the train rolls around Europe carrying the political weather and a cross-section of European society.
The contradictions are there from the start: total artistic freedom at one end of the train, lavish VIP areas at the other. Uncomfortable, and surprisingly productive. What brings it down isn't the money. It's footage nobody knew had been taken, converging with a far-right network that has been documenting the train for a year and waiting for its moment. They meet one night at a siding near the Hungarian border.
