He was first drawn to this era in history by a high school teacher who challenged him to think critically about the origins of Adolf Hitler's rise to power, the subsequent appeasement policy of Neville Chamberlain, and their relevance to our current era of political division and international conflict.
Having spent many years working as a journalist, a copywriter, and in mental health, Thomas began to write fiction in his early 30s, after developing a chronic pain condition that kept him largely housebound for several years.
His first novel, set in the German-speaking region of Belgium, and in Berlin, was informed by his travels across Continental Europe. He lives in the Belgian countryside, and is doing his best to learn Flemish.
