Mother Made Me

Picador have acquired Niamh Mulvey’s Mother Made Me, a Patricia Highsmith-inspired novel: “not a whodunnit, or a howdunnit, but a whydunnit and a who-knows-whodunnit.” The book follows a 60-year-old crime writer, Pat, whose mother has ruined her life with unceasing cruelty and self-obsession. So Pat decides to take drastic action…

Sophie Jonathan, publishing director of the Pan Macmillan imprint, acquired world and audio rights from ICA’s Sallyanne Sweeney.

Jonathan believes this novel “deserves to be a huge success: Mother Made Me has us turning and turning and turning again. It is brilliantly, cleverly arranged, utterly immersive and incredibly moving.”
