Babyface Creepshow

Author: Aravind Jayan

Genres: Literary Fiction

A dark comedy about masculine insecurities, love, loneliness, and societal pressures to couple up. It’s a short, striking read with a big ‘WTF’ factor.

A young wife gets tired of her husband’s relentless insecurities and suspicions with regard to other men, and comes up with a ludicrous lie to mock him: that she is a pedophile who married him specifically because his short stature and babyface are child-like; that she can therefore only be attracted to him, and no other grown men; that they are uniquely suited to each other. While the husband struggles to make sense of his wife’s new declaration, she moves to dominate and control him.

This story is intertwined with the story of the marriage broker who brought them together—who’s panicking about his profession going extinct in the age of casual sex and dating apps, and is desperate to marry people off by any means.
